Anomonki is a brand project made for a music producer and programmer who is interested in bringing creativity and influences from hacker style, rebel world to the music industry. In the beginning, we weren't if it will be the best fit for us to work together, as I tend to work with UX / UI and minimalistic branding. But, I wanted to experiment, broaden my knowledge and skills in general as I am a big music fan.
Anomonki had a clear idea that he wanted to go with hacker style visuals to tell the story about his programming background. The main goal was to avoid general hacker style and create visuals that will resonate with his audience. Our ultimate goal was to create catchy, rebel and recognizable visual language which will represent his core beliefs and music. In this project, we started first working on the main concept of Anomonki, the key visual elements and overall feel of the brand. For this process, we used the “design funnel” method to create variations, show it to Anomonki, get feedback and repeat the process until we achieve what we were aiming for.
The concept for the logomark was inspired by three main elements: Letter A, monkey/person silhouette and eyes in shape of 0 and 1, representing bits. We wanted it to be visually simple to absorb but at the same show the story of the brand/person behind this logomark. I was happy when I saw his first reaction to the logo and how he instantly was able to connect with it. It was the ultimate goal and we achieved it.
Art style connected rebel, catchy and absurd styles which perfectly represented the character behind Anomonki. The main inspiration came from his favorite game WatchDogs (a video game about hackers) and he wanted to keep his visuals somewhat the same as the video game. Both of us loved the final art visuals and had full nights of conversation about how it can become big and what to improve.
It was a challenging project and I couldn't imagine the outcome in the beginning. But his energy and passion resonated with me a lot and I wanted to deliver the best result that he and his audience will feel connected to.
